I am not good at taking photographs of people... people that are just out and about. I really REALLY need to be better at it.
If you were someone who contacted me about getting some photos taken in a studio setting. Or you were a friend of friend who needed some photos - Thats different becasue the relationship is one of you needing something and me feeling like I am helping in some way. I am totally comfortable with this setup... In the absense of such relationship, I have issues requesting permission or just brazenly taking photos of people in public. Here I am at a farmers market with what I would call gobs of people interacting and mulling about - and I take about 25 -30 photos over the whole outing... I have like 4 photos with actual people in them. 4. And the majority of those? my wife and son :) My inner dialog tells me yeah... tomatoes are great, get a shot of those tomatoes! That'll be just f'ing great!
I am not sure what it is that makes it so hard to do. I am not a bashful person. I don't have a problem just talking to people. For some reason when it comes to "hey do you mind if I get a quick picture?" there is a voice in my head that says no way just keep moving. I am just so in the mindset of not wanting to inconvenience anyone, especially with no clear reason to do so, that I don't even try.
Not a trait I am proud of to be honest. I will work on this this summer. Too many opportunities for decent photos just lost for lack of asking.
For now enjoy the tomatoes ;)
